BACKGROUND

Templewood Primary School is in the picturesque town of Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire.

The school have created a nurturing environment where every child is valued and treated with respect. Through an ambitious and inclusive curriculum children can fulfil their potential and learn without limits.

PROJECT BRIEF

The school is surrounded by an abundance of nature and is a Grade II listed building, however there was very little for the children to do during their breaktimes and lunchtimes, the school wanted an area where the children could be active and purpose.

In addition, it was important to provide a play space that would not only allow children to engage in structured and purposeful play, but also facilitate the enhancement of their physical development and communication skills.

Overall, the area needed to be designed to promote learning through play and foster a supportive environment for children to grow and thrive.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Templewood School Association, a series of successful fundraising events were organised to raise the necessary funds. In addition to a small allocation from the school budget, enough money was raised for the new play area.

Our local consultant met with the Headteacher to discuss the best pieces of equipment to maximise the use of the available space. During their meeting, the consultant shared insights on optimizing the area and presented a range of options to transform the space into an exciting play space.

A design was created and presented to the school; and after some adjustments a final option was agreed; meaning work could begin on the new play area.
