BACKGROUND
Dean Hill Park is situated in the market town of Ross-on-Wye, the civil parish of Herefordshire. The Town Council was established in 1974 following the introduction of the Local Government Act 1972. In 2015 it underwent changes after a boundary review resulted in its amalgamation with Ross Rural Parish Council.
PROJECT BRIEF
Dean Hill Park needed an update as several pieces of existing equipment were past their ‘usage date’. As the play park was going to be aimed for more junior children the council were keen for the space to become more o an adventure park.
The town council desired a play space that was in-keeping with the environment, catering for children accordingly aged between 7 and 12. The existing bark was not fit for purpose due to its inaccessibility for some children. Meaning a more accessible surface was crucial.
Ultimately, the council aimed to create an inclusive play space that would offer exciting and stimulating experiences for all the children in the local community. They wanted to encourage children to return time and time again.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
The council themselves had contributed most of the funds topped these up with additional funding sourced by grant funders including Herefordshire Community Foundation. The local consultant discussed plans and options with the Deputy Clerk. As the council had a clear idea on what they required, including a framed item, scramble net, climbing wall and monkey bars, it was a specific brief.
A design and quote were presented following discussions, the schools specific requirements for the new play area were carefully considered.
Fawns were subsequently chosen for the project as our equipment was the most in keeping with the environment. Presenting a competitive price without compromising on the quality of the equipment.
