INTRODUCTION

Nestled in the charming market town of Taunton, Somerset. North Curry C of E Primary School proudly stands as a vibrant member of the Richard Huish Trust. Though small in size, North Curry Primary School is driven by big dreams and an unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional education.

PROJECT BRIEF

North Curry needed to design an outdoor play area that would meet the specific needs of the youngest members of their school community. Ideally to be in keeping with the rural aesthetics of the school grounds.

As this was a younger age range, the school firstly had to find out how best to facilitate physical development for the youngest members of the school community. They knew they would require an outdoor space where children can develop both their fine and gross motor skills, with the opportunity for learning spatial awareness in a safe environment, key to the project’s success.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH

The finance and operations directors of the trust had visited a partner school in Birmingham, who had equipment installed by Fawns. The team received detailed briefings on the significant positive outcomes that had emerged since the implementation of a new play area.

The visit provided invaluable insights and inspiration for integrating similar initiatives within their own schools, demonstrating the profound impact of thoughtfully designed outdoor learning spaces.

With the funds secured, North Curry Primary School were able to move straight to the design phase, with the clear focus on creating an enriching and impactful experience for all of their pupils.
