Over the last 3 years Fawns have worked with Merefield School on multiple projects, gradually improving the outdoor spaces and play provision for their many children of differing special needs. The photos attached are of the biggest single project we completed for them.
The brief was to completely redevelop one of their main playing fields which was a tired and uninspiring space. What little equipment they had in various states of disrepair and the ground was uneven and at the mercy of burrowing wildlife. We worked very closely with the school and refined the designs and came up with this fantastic scheme. Ground that was previously uneven and inaccessible was transformed by a colourful wetpour surface, featuring a perimeter roadway that allows users, especially those in wheelchairs to race without obstruction. We also constructed a sensory pathway using a variety of materials that provided extra stimulation. Large areas of artificial grass around the outside of the play area offered a different aesthetic and textures while ensuring it was usable in all weathers.
Our large Pick Up Sticks climbing frame, a zoned off swing area (featuring double basket a wheelchair accessible swings), durable outdoor gym equipment, that offered impact free exercise and a flush fitted wheelchair accessible roundabout, provided enough variety and excitement for all their children regardless of age and abilities.
