ENERGETIC children at Cawston Grange Primary School have been running, skipping and climbing to improve their playground. They wanted to do their part by getting active to fund their playground revamp!
They took part in a sponsored Get Active Day to promote outdoor play and boost wellbeing and to raise money for the school Pennies for the Playground appeal.
The school parent-teacher association Friends of Cawston Grange launched the appeal last November to raise money for new play equipment and revamp the schoolyard. So the school jumped into getting active to fund the playground revamp!
Head teacher Sue McGonagle said: We would like to improve our outdoor learning spaces as we are all aware of the benefits of being active on physical wellbeing and mental health.
The children wanted to contribute by holding a sponsored Get Active Day, so we have been skipping, running, climbing and rolling in our mud trail. We have huge support from our parents, the community and local companies. The activity was supported and sponsored by DHL, and we were also fortunate to be granted £10,000 from the National Lottery. A huge thank you to all who have supported us.
The next stage of the project involves building a daily mile all-weather track and a Forest School.
