With their old trim trail coming to the end of its life, St Thomas More Catholic Primary School in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, invited us to put forward ideas for their Key Stage One play area.
They were keen to challenge the pupils and encourage independent play, with the opportunity for role play as well as the physical challenges you would expect from a multi-play unit.
We created a bespoke structure from our Young Explorer range – space was at a premium as the school wanted to keep as much of the playground area free for sports and games, so by creating a specific design for the school’s unique grounds we could maximise the play value without reducing the overall flexibility of the space.
The finished unit is challenging, both in terms of height and the range of play apparatus, but when we visited the school to review the installation these children from Year 1 & 2 seemed to be getting to “grips” with it.
